What is overthinking?
Respuesta Corta
Overthinking is the tendency to analyze, reflect, or worry excessively about situations, decisions, or problems, often repetitively and without reaching useful conclusions, which can generate anxiety, stress, and difficulty making decisions.
Overthinking occurs when a person devotes an excessive amount of time and mental energy to analyzing a situation, often from multiple angles, without being able to reach a resolution or decision. Unlike constructive reflection, overthinking tends to be circular and unproductive.
There are different types of overthinking: rumination (repetitively thinking about negative past events), anticipatory worry (excessively thinking about future events), and paralyzing analysis (analyzing a decision so much that it becomes impossible to act).
- •Excessive analysis of past or future situations
- •Constant worry about "what if"
- •Difficulty making decisions due to fear of making mistakes
- •Thoughts that repeat without advancing toward a solution
- •Negative impact on sleep and overall well-being
